Before Outreach

Matthew 6 (NIV)
Giving to the Needy
1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Prayer
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Fasting
16"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Treasures in Heaven
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I love this passage. It basically says: Give everything you have, do it with a humble heart, keep your relationship with God, do it with a humble heart, and in all of those things, don't worry.

It's going to be my theme verse for the next 3 months.

On the 16th, at 11:00am [MY time] I will be leaving for Frankfurt Airport. From Frankfurt, I will be on my way to Chad. For the first month, we will be staying at a YWAM base in Sarh. From there, we don't actaully know. There is a chance - if we can get government permission - that we might end up in Sudan in the middle of the Darfur war. Pray for that because we don't know if it's something that God wants...as much as we want to go.

Basically what we'll be doing while we're there, is working with Darfur refugees. [To explain, there is an African Holocaust in Sudan on the border of Chad, and people are fleeing to Chad to get away from it...but there are not enough resources for them so they need allthe help that they can get...and so we are going to at least work with the ones in Chad]. We are going to be helping them in as many ways as we can...which mostly involves spending time with them. Philip [our leader who is from Kenya] has been to Sudan and said that many of them are beyond help, and all you can do is love them. So yeah. pray for safety, pray for strength - physical, emotional, and spiritual - for courage, for clear minds, and for a peace that surpasses all understanding.

I love you guys....see you soon!

Here we are again. We just want you to know that we love you and are praying for you. It snowed here last night and is supposed to snow again tonight. You are really missing out...lol! We hope that you are being filled by the Holy Spirit, daily, to overflowing. We hope that you are able to do all the things of which God has called you, according to his purpose, to do... and with a Christ-like character, abounding in love. We love you and miss you,

so...this weekend, i got to play with piano with the worship team at 3D...it certainly was an adventure seeing as how i had approximately no idea what i was doing....but i enjoyed myself none the less and have decided that it's going to be a learning experience for me...one that i'm much looking forward to continuing.
and as for my words of wisdom.....

"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."

"Whatever is at the center of our life will be the source of our security, guidance, wisdom and power."

"The religious community is essential, for alone our vision is too narrow to see all that must be seen. Together, our vision widens and strength is renewed."

"The purpose of life is a life of purpose."

so...keep going down that road of having a life of purpose, wherever God ends up taking you...and knowing that in the eyes of the people you have set out to help, that every little thing makes a difference for them...and i shall be praying for you...

Justin,

I am not sure that you will be able to read these comments for a while, unless of course you use someone elses computer. Dad left and email about your broken computer and what to do about it. We sure do appreciate what you are doing and we are in prayer about it and also for your team. We know that you are doing what He has called you to do, and we are trusting in Him with your teams care. We are glad that you have become such a close knit family. Also, would like to comment that we have been enjoying Liz's blogspot... www.heartsforchad.blogspot.com
as it has been extremely informative, considering your computer screen is broken and you have not been able to bring us news this way. Please tell her thank you so much. Please give the group hugs from your family and tell them that we totally support everything that you are doing and that you are all covered in prayer!

We love you and miss you,

Justin,

It is good to hear that you are in the capital of Cameroon. We will be praying that your team gets to its next destination, in a timely manner and without visa problems. We will continue to pray for unity for your group and that the devil will not form any strongholds in it either. We will pray that the Lord will reveal Himself to you and the people that you come into contact with. We are thankful to God our Savior that He is trustworthy and that He continues to answer prayers! We love and miss you. We will not stop praying for you and your team... God's team. Run your race in such a way that God will be pleased, as He is all that matters when all is said and done.

We love and miss you much more than you could ever know.

We are counting the days til we get to see you again...

In Christ love,

Justin,
Here we are again, writing you even though you may not be able to read this. Today is sunny, but cold. I am sure to you, it beats the sweltering weather that you are in. You have 46 days until you get to come home... can you tell that we are really looking forward to seeing you and that we miss you incredibly? We are praying that you got a plane to Ethiopia and that you are able to continue your missionary outreach. You should know that you are covered in prayer and that you are asked about daily. People from many churches are praying for you and your team. Stay faithful in His Service, for His Glory... We love you much!

hey! i don't exactly have much to say...but, as you make your way through africa, keep being passionate about the work that God has brought you there to do and even through there have been obstacles to get through, you haven't been stopped. remember that He will keep you strong, even if it doesn't seem like it at the moment, i know i told you this before, but i'm going to say it again...
"If God leads you to it, He will bring you through it"
keep trusting in Him that whatever is meant to be will happen.
so, wherever you are right now, stay safe, i miss you, and, as always, i shall continue to pray for you.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who
hunger and thirst for
righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for
righteousness sake.
For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:4-12

I just really love these verses, so I thought I would share them with you, I hope they are encouraging to you and your team.
C'ya when you're home!

Justin,

Hey, I am just posting this comment in hopes that you will be able to check out your blog from an internet cafe or someone elses computer. We sure love you and miss you. We hope that you are building lasting (eternal) friendships, and lots of them. We pray that this message finds you well. We also pray that you and your team don't get discouraged. Always stay focused on Him, and only Him... and everything else will fall into place. We all love and miss you. We can't wait until you get home and share your experiences with us. So, we hope that you are keeping some sort of diary of your experiences. Your brother will see you soon, and for that, he is so stoked!

In Christ,

So, Justin,

Hope all is going well with you and your team. We miss you very much, and love you even more. We are praying for you. We hope that you are focused only on God and His plan for your lives. We pray that you will surrender any stronghold that the devil has in your lives and that you turn those over to the Lord. Remember...Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before the fall... so, cast out (if you haven't yet) all pride. Remember, when pride walks in, God walks out...because He can't work in you, when you are serving someone else...even if that someone is yourself. We don't know if these words are of any encouragement, but we felt like the Lord wanted us to
say them. God Bless and Keep you and your team. We look forward to the time when we can all be together again. Ty is on his way to Germany today, with 2 others. We hope that you will enjoy their fellowship until you return home.

Love in Christ Jesus,

hey stranger!! pretty much just wanted to say hi....and offer a few more "words of wisdom" :-) (go figure, right? i've been reading all these amazing books....and they've given me lots to think about....some of which i have to share with you)

"And then there is time in which to be, simply to be, that time in which God quietly tells us who we are and who he wants us to be. It is then that God can take our emptiness and fill it up with what He wants."

"But you will find that even those who insist most strongly on the importance of good actions tell you you need faith; and even those who insist most strongly on faith tell you to do good actions."

"It is usually those that know Him that bring Him to others."

"But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in."

so....stay strong, keep sharing the love of God with the people who you are crossing paths with...stay the awesome person that you are....you'll definitely have some amazing stories to share when you get back, which...you'll be back soon...can't wait to see you...and until then....i'll be praying for you!

Justin,

Hey, it looks like the end to one chapter in your life and the beginning to another... and to you it probably seems like time has really flown by, but to us here (the ones left behind) time has seemed to pass rather slowly. We know that you have many emotions going through your head and heart right now, and we want you to know that we will be here for you, to help you sort them out. We are very thankful that you have had this opportunity to serve the Lord this way, and we know that you will come away with many memories....some very good and some not so good. We love you and miss you soooo much. We look forward to seeing you soon. Please let the team know that they will continue to be in our prayers and that we would love to meet up them someday. Please get in touch with us when you can.

God Bless you Justin, your team, and YWAM!

In Christ,

Hey, we are so looking forward to hearing about what is going on in your life... but, we know that it is hard to do without a working computer. I know that there are phones and phone cards... so, hey if you get this message, use one of those means on communication, please. We love and miss you and are excited to see you again. We hope that all is well with you and that many are coming to know the Father through you and your love for Him.

We will see you soon,
